Statement on Charging
The admission of a child to Appleby Grammar School and the formal curriculum offered to a registered student are not subject to a charge or the parents'/carers’ willingness to make a voluntary contribution.
No charge will be made in respect of day visits that take place during school hours, or are part of the National Curriculum. However, where the school cannot levy charges and it is not possible to make these additional activities within the resources available to the school, the school may request or invite parents/carers to make a contribution towards the cost of the visit. Students will not be treated differently according to whether or not their parents have made a contribution. Where there are not enough voluntary contributions to make the activity possible, then it may be cancelled.
For school visits which are not essential to the National Curriculum, parents/carers will be requested to make a specified voluntary contribution towards the costs. However where there are not enough voluntary contributions to make the activity possible, then the trip may be cancelled.
The school charges in respect of individual music tuition, and group music tuition if teaching is not an essential part of either the National Curriculum or a public examination syllabus. A 50% discount is available to families who are entitled to free school meals.
